A former Mercy health care executive in Springfield is listed No. 3 in Arkansas Business’ research of the highest-paid nonprofit employees in Arkansas. Kim Day, who spent 2013 as interim administrator of the Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark., was paid $1.27 million in 2012.

Now a regional administrator for Mercy, Day earned nearly $1.3 million as president of Mercy Central Communities in 2011, and he was one of two health care executives paid more than $1 million that year, according to Springfield Business Journal research.

In Robert Bezanson’s last year as CoxHealth CEO, he earned $1.7 million, including deferred compensation, according to IRS 990 forms filed in 2012, the most recent year available.

In Arkansas, Day was one of seven nonprofit employees who earned more than $1 million in the 2012 tax year, and all of them were either medical doctors or hospital administrators, Arkansas Business reports.

The top-paid nonprofit workers in the state were Drs. Ali Krisht of St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center and Amr El-Shafeil, a physician with Mercy Health in Rogers, Ark. Both doctors exceeded $1.3 million in total compensation.
