Softball standout Tina Kramos, who played shortstop for the Southwest Missouri State University Bears from 1991-95, is among 12 players named to the 2004 inaugural Greek Olympic softball team, according to an SMSU announcement.
The tryouts, which included both classroom and on-field sessions, took place Aug. 21-25 on the grounds of the International Softball Federation world headquarters in Plant City, Fla.
There were 32 players of Greek descent invited to the tryout 29 from the United States, two from Canada and one from Australia.
A tryout will be held this month in Athens, Greece, for Greek nationals and those players selected will be added to the 12 selected from the North American tryout.
After the Greek national team is formed, the first training session will be conducted Jan. 2-8, 2003, in Tempe, Ariz.
Kramos, a native of Overland Park, Kan., is assistant softball coach at Illinois State University. During her time playing for SMSU, she earned all-MVC honors as a junior and senior. As a senior, Kramos set the SMSU single-season record for assists with 152 and also holds the career record for assists with 487.
Kramos closed out her SMS career with 94 runs scored, which ranks fourth on the all-time chart. She also ranks fourth all-time in triples (11) and fifth in RBIs with 73.
