Former Prime Inc. executive found dead

Posted online
A former executive of Springfield trucking company Prime Inc. was found dead Tuesday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. John Hancock was 50.

Christian County Coroner Brad Cole said Hancock's body was found in a wooded area a short distance from his home in Nixa. Though his death certificate hasn't been certified, Cole said Hancock most likely committed suicide.

Hancock, who worked for Prime for more than 25 years, most recently as director of training and recruitment, left the company prior to his death to pursue other interests, according to a statement provided by Prime spokesman Clayton Brown.

"The news of John’s death has greatly impacted the Prime family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Professional counseling has been offered to Prime associates to help cope with this news," the statement said.

Funeral services are scheduled 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at Greenlaw Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole St., with visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. before the service. Internment will be at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., according to an obituary posted online at GreenLawnFuneralHome.com.

Hancock also was active with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. With some 15 years as a member of the chamber's board, Hancock was elected chairman of the board for a two-year term starting Jan. 1, 2012, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

At Prime, Hancock was named director of training and recruitment in 2003 and also was involved in legislative advocacy efforts for the company.[[In-content Ad]]
