The founder of the world's largest Pizza Hut franchisee won a $48 million judgment against the state of Kansas.
The multiyear tax dispute is tied to Gene Bicknell's sale of the franchisee, Overland Park-based NPC International Inc., for $165 million in 2006.
Kansas charged Bicknell a $42.5 million tax bill, even though he lived in Florida at the time. He later challenged the bill after paying it.
"I have always believed, that if I would be given a fair hearing free of political implications, I would prevail," Bicknell said.
