Wasson graduated from Nixa High School in 1930 and went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Southwest Baptist University and attend Missouri State University.
She served for 39 years as postmaster at Nixa and was inducted into the Nixa Academic Hall of Fame in 1995. She also received the Nixa R-II Schools Outstanding Alumni Award in 1986.
In 1976, Wasson was elected Nixa mayor and served a two-year term.
She is survived by various family members, including son Jay Wasson, who also served as Nixa mayor for five years and currently represents Nixa in the Missouri House of Representatives.
