Jurors in the trial of Aaron Hernandez found the former New England Patriots player guilty of first-degree murder in a verdict handed down Wednesday.
The conviction carries with it a penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, according to CNN.
The former tight end was convicted in the death of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player, who was shot to death and found in a Massachusetts industrial park in June 2013.
Two of Hernandez’s friends, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, are also charged with murder, have pleaded not guilty and will be tried separately. Hernandez also was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
