Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is headed to Springfield this summer for the Price Cutter Charity Championship.

Romo agreed to play in the Korn Ferry Tour tournament at Highland Springs Country Club. The event is scheduled July 17-27, with the pros slated to play July 23-26, according to a news release. Romo is receiving one of four sponsor’s exemptions at the Springfield event, meaning he first will play to qualify in the professional-level tournament at the PCCC, said spokesperson Kary Booher.

“Playing in a Korn Ferry Tour event is a huge honor, especially when you think of all the talent here that’ll be on the PGA Tour soon,” Romo said in the release. "From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate the Price Cutter Charity Championship … for giving me this shot. I can’t wait for July in Springfield.”

Romo, 41, competed but did not advance past the first stage in the 2018 Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament. He also did not qualify in four PGA Tour starts in 2018 and 2019.

In the NFL, he played his entire career with the Cowboys. He's since worked as a TV analyst, recently signing a multimillion-dollar deal with CBS, according to the release.

PGA Tour officials recently decided to resume the tour schedule amid the coronavirus pandemic. PCCC officials say they plan to follow guidance from national and local health officials for this summer's tournament.
