Former NFL player commits suicide in prison

Posted online
Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez killed himself in his prison cell Wednesday morning, officials said.

The 27-year-old was found hanging by his cell from a bed sheet at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Massachusetts.

Hernandez was convicted in 2015 of the first-degree murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Hernandez was arrested in August 2013 in connection with Lloyd's June 2013 death.

Last week, Hernandez was found not guilty of a separate double homicide. He already was serving a life sentence without parole in connection with Lloyd's murder.
