Longtime attorney and judge Almon Maus died Jan. 9 at The Manor at Elfindale. He was 88.

A visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a noon memorial service at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole St. The Maus family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield or the YMCA, according to his obituary posted on the Greenlawn Funeral Homes Web site.

Maus was appointed to the Southern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals in 1979, where he served until 1993.

According to the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, of which he was a member, Maus was a "lawyer's lawyer" and referred to his time on the Court of Appeals as "lawyer's heaven."

Prior to serving on the Court of Appeals, Maus worked in general practice in Monett and served as probate judge and magistrate of Barry County 1949-50.

Maus also was a member of the Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Juvenile Procedure and Lawyers Specialization, and he was the author of three volumes of the Missouri Probate Law and Practice.

Maus is survived by his wife, Elaine; his son, Stephen Maus, and his wife, Nancy; and his daughter, Sherill Easterling, and her husband Jerry Springer.[[In-content Ad]]
