Former Hoover Music president dies

James Hoover, the former president of downtown music store Hoover Music Co., died July 30 at Mercy Hospital Springfield. He was 73.

Hoover and his brother Kenny, who died in 1999, ran the business after their father, Paul, died in 1978. James Hoover passed ownership of the store in 2000 to his son Brian, who now operates the 440 S. Jefferson Ave. provider of music instruments, sheets music, instrument repairs and lessons, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Brian Hoover is one of two surviving children, along with Suzanne Stevens of Shawnee, Kan., as well as five grandchildren, according to James Hoover's obituary posted on Greenlawn Funeral Home's website.

Private graveside services have been scheduled for a later date, and no visitation is planned.[[In-content Ad]]
