Three months after leaving the CEO post at Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, Gloria Roling has taken a job as a mortgage loan originator for Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield.
Roling was hired around July 1, said David Lurvey, vice president and director of mortgage lending for the bank. Roling is working out of Southern Missouri’s newest office at 3335 E. Ridgeview St., northwest of Battlefield Road and Highway 65.
Roling had worked as CEO of the HBA of Greater Springfield for three months before resigning in April. Roling said this morning she resigned due to time commitments connected to the declining health of her parents.
“I have been the caretaker for my parents and they have had some major health issues and still have some ongoing,” Roling said. “My background was in banking before I had gone to the construction industry side, so I’ve gone back more to my roots. (Southern Missouri) has allowed me the flexibility of working when I could.”
Roling said she is working full time at Southern Missouri, but her schedule varies, so she can continue to care for her parents.
“The Home Builders Association was a lot of responsibility. When you start a new job like that you feel really guilty if you have to be gone. It wasn’t right to them, and I just had to be the caretaker of my parents,” Roling said of stepping down from the HBA.
At the HBA, Roling was succeeded by Ken Thrasher on
July 1.
On Jan. 2, Roling began working as CEO of the HBA of Greater Springfield, succeeding 11-year veteran Matt Morrow, who resigned after he was named executive vice president for the Alabama-based Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, according to

Lurvey said Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield opened its third location on May 1, and the branch is a loan origination office focusing solely on commercial and residential loans.
Lurvey said the bank signed a long-term lease for the roughly 2,000-square-foot property located adjacent to PFI Western Wear.
“We’ve been wanting a presence in the Springfield market for some time," Lurvey said.
He said the bank plans to employ four mortgage loan originators at the office and one commercial loan officer in the coming weeks, but it currently only has a staff of three including Roling.
“We think she’s a great asset to our company because of her connections in the community,” Lurvey said, adding he thought the arrangement was mutually beneficial. “I think it was a good fit for her.”
Prior to joining the HBA, Roling worked for three years as the marketing director of Springfield-based architecture firm Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc. She also previously worked as business development manager for Walton Construction Co. and as program coordinator for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Springfield initiative, according to SBJ archives.
