Jacques Chirac, France's former president, died Thursday. He was 86.
A two-term president who also served as the country's prime minister and mayor of Paris, Chirac may be best remembered for his opposition to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to NPR.
He spent more than half-a-century in the public eye.
