Former execs found not guilty in Fukushima nuclear disaster

Three former top executives of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. were found not guilty Thursday of criminal negligence in the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.

The Tokyo District Court found the executives could not have predicted a tsunami and earthquake would cause the accident.

Other district courts have ruled Tokyo Electric Power could have predicted and prevented the nuclear crisis. Those were civil suits, however, which required putting the responsibility on the company, not individuals. The civil cases reportedly have less stringent demands for proof and evidence.
