Turner White III died at his home Aug. 21 at the age of 90.

White built a 47-year career in law before his 1995 retirement as general counsel of City Utilities of Springfield, according to his obituary published in the Springfield News-Leader. He worked in private practice for 30 years and as an assistant Greene County prosecutor early in his career. He also served as a U.S. Army officer in World War II, the obituary said.

White’s family settled in Greene County from Tennessee in 1853. His great-grandfather, William White, was a founding member of Antioch Church and is buried in its churchyard, the Antioch Cemetery. His grandfather, Turner White, also an attorney, was in Drury University’s first graduating class and served in the Missouri Supreme Court as commissioner and justice. His father, Turner White Jr., was an electrical engineer, who worked as the first superintendent of Bagnell Dam when Lake of the Ozarks opened.

Turner White III, a graduate of Central High School, University of Missouri and Washington University School of Law, served as a member of the Missouri and Springfield Metropolitan bar associations, including a stint as president, and the Springfield Public School board, including one term as president.

Funeral services are scheduled 11 a.m. Aug. 25 at National Avenue Christian Church, where White served as a Life Elder.
