Mike Shildt, former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, has been hired by the San Diego Padres as a player development consultant.
He's working with the team on a part-time basis.
His full-time gig is working in the commissioner's office. Mayor League Baseball granted him permission to take on the consulting position with the Padres.
