Former Ark. state senator pleads guilty to mail fraud

Former Arkansas state Sen. Paul Bookout, a Democrat from Jonesboro, Ark., pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to a single count of mail fraud for misusing campaign contributions.

In the plea, Bookout agreed he used $150,048 in contributions to his 2010 and 2012 campaigns for personal items and expenses including clothing for Bookout and his family, a sound system at his home, golf clubs, sporting goods, liquor, household furniture and tanning sessions, among other items, according to Arkansas Business.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
