Foreign company to buy SunEdison Semiconductor for $683M

Taiwan-based GlobalWafers Co. Ltd. agreed to buy O’Fallon-based SunEdison Semiconductor for $683 million, including debt.

Shareholders of the maker of silicon wafers for the computer chip industry will receive $12 in cash for each share held.

Formerly MEMC Electronic Materials, SunEdison Semiconductor was created after Maryland Heights-based solar company SunEdison Inc. separated the silicon wafer business in 2014 and later sold off its stake in the subsidiary.
