Ford issues compensation checks for overstating mileage in hybrids

Almost 200,000 owners of Ford hybrids will be receiving checks from the automaker in the next several weeks, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.
 
Six Ford hybrid models, including the Fiesta, Fusion Hybrid and the Lincoln MKZ hybrid, get lower gas mileage than advertised, according to the news report. Ford states it discovered the errors internally and is working quickly to address them.
 
Broader tests conducted last year by Consumer Reports found most hybrid vehicles missed their promoted mileage ratings by an average of 10 percent.
