Five Questions: Kristina Gange, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage

Posted online
Kristina Gange, a 21-year-old from the Boulder, Colo., area, accepted a promotion in August with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, relocating her to the Ozarks. She works as a reverse mortgage consultant at Wells Fargo's office, 222 E. Primrose, Ste. E.

Welcome to Springfield. What are your initial thoughts?

It's a lot smaller here. I was working with the whole Denver area. This is a lot more laid back. I like it. I'm more of a small-town person.

What do you do as a reverse mortgage consultant?

I work with senior citizens 62 years old and older to help them refinance their home. Instead of them making a monthly payment, Wells Fargo can make a monthly payment to them. It allows them to tap into the equity in their home.

As the oldest of the estimated 78 million baby boomers begin to retire, it's been reported that 7,918 people will turn 60 each day this year. Not a bad time to get into the reverse mortgage business, then, is it?

It's going to be huge. In two more years, I think the reverse mortgage is going to be a big hit. (Participants) have to be 62. As soon as they are able to, I think they are going to take advantage of it. A lot of (people that age) want to retire, and they can tap into that equity in their home and use that money to go places or do whatever they want to with it.

Reality TV is a big hit with your age group. Which reality TV show would you most like to appear on?

“Survivor.” I just think going out there and testing your abilities to live out in the wild with nothing and competing against other people would be fun. I wouldn't mind trying.

You know that there is a “Survivor” open casting call Feb. 1 at Pairings restaurant in Nixa?

Yeah, but then I think about just getting down here and starting out. I think I'll wait a couple seasons down the road before I try out.
