Fitbit agreed to pay a $12.25 million civil penalty, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The penalty is related to claims that Fitbit did not quickly report overheating concerns with its Ionic smartwatch.
Fitbit did not voluntarily recall the Ionic smartwatch until March 2022, following a firmware update issued in early 2020 to address the problem. Reports of the overheating came as early as 2018.
