First woman, African appointed to lead World Trade Organization

Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was appointed yesterday to lead the World Trade Organization.

Okonjo-Iweala, 66, becomes the first woman and first African to serve as director-general of the organization. She was appointed by representatives of 164 member countries.

The WTO deals with trade rules between nations.
