It also was reported that the Springfield eatery is the third Famous Dave's in the state. It actually is the fourth. There also is a location in St. Joseph.
The first Springfield location of Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que opens today at 4406 S. Campbell Ave., the former site of Auto World of Springfield.

The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning for the restaurant, which is just south of James River Freeway and across the street from Sam's Club and Academy Sports & Outdoors, according to a news release.

The eatery is the fourth Missouri opening for Minneapolis-based chain Famous Dave’s of America Inc. (Nasdaq: DAVE).

The Springfield Famous Dave's operates under the franchise name Midwest BBQ Ventures South Springfield LLC, which is co-owned by managing member Dave Jones, Joe Gira and Mark Coburn. Jones also is the owner of Branson-based Jones Restaurants Missouri LLC, the franchisee for two other Missouri Famous Dave's locations at the Branson Landing and the Branson Airport.

Famous Dave's in Springfield features a 60-foot elevated gas fire pit and will serve craft beers from local brewer Mother's Brewing Co. Two bars - made from a 100-year-old tree removed from Sequiota Park about a year ago - at the eatery were constructed by Lampe-based Wood Merchant LLC.

The 6,100-square-foot restaurant - open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. - serves ribs, hickory-smoked meats and other barbecue offerings.

According to the release, Jones, Gira and Coburn plan to expand their franchise operation to the St. Louis market in 2012.

Jeff Childs of Sperry Van Ness Rankin Co. LLC, who brokered the sale of the 12,000-square-foot Auto World property, told Springfield Business Journal in July that a group of investors purchased the property and would be leasing portions to tenants. Childs said the property, which went up for sale early this year, sold for an undisclosed amount June 1. The property had been listed on the Sperry Van Ness Rankin Co. Web site for $2.5 million.[[In-content Ad]]
