The project, aimed at kids and families, will nearly double the park’s ride roster, bringing the total to 21. Rider capacity will jump from 8,000 per hour to 13,000.
SDC officials learned from focus groups that its customers wanted more family rides, said General Manager Brad Thomas.
“We saw The Grand Exposition as a huge opportunity for moms and dads and the kids to experience rides together and enjoy a beautiful setting for time together,” Thomas said.
The theme is based on the world’s fairs and expositions that highlighted new inventions during the late 19th century.
The 10 rides were imported from Italy and manufactured specifically for Silver Dollar City, which is owned by Herschend Family Entertainment Corp.
The Grand Exposition will feature three rides specifically for children in addition to seven suited for families. In the background, the Electro-Spin ride travels up to 55 feet in the air in either direction, all while spinning.
The existing Heritage Hall and adjacent structures will be redressed with bunting and streamers to reflect the celebration of the exposition.
A worker nails cedar shake shingles to the roof of the Royal Tea Party ride. Thomas says details like this will provide the signature scent of the Grand Exposition: cedar.
