Filming at tonight’s Cardinals game kicks off ‘Simpsons’ contest

Posted online
Springfield has thrown its hat into the ring of contenders to win a hometown premiere of “The Simpsons Movie,” which is set in a fictional Springfield.

Fourteen Springfields across the country are each submitting short films that showcase their Simpsons spirit. “USA Today” will allow readers to vote on each competing city at its Web site, and a winner will be announced July 10.

The reigning Springfield will win a private screening of “The Simpsons Movie” for 500 on July 26.

Organizers of the local contest submission will film a segment at tonight’s Springfield Cardinals game at Hammons Field. Attendees will be asked at several points to perform in unison, and signs posted at the gates will serve as crowd-release notices that allows attendees’ voices or likenesses to be used in the video.

Tickets to the game were still available as of 11 a.m. To order, call (417) 863-2143. Organizers are hoping for a sellout game.

There will be other opportunities for the community to participate in filming Springfield’s entry in the contest. Project updates are available at www.springfieldmo.org.
