Fiat shares jump on Chrysler merger deal

Fiat shares jumped on Thursday after it struck a $4.35 billion deal to gain full control of Chrysler Group LLC, but doubts remained over whether the Italian carmaker can use the merger to cut losses in Europe.

The Chicago Tribune reports analysts worry the deal will increase Fiat's already heavy debt burden.

Still, the company's shares rose 16 percent, reaching levels not seen since August 2011, after the agreeement was announced late Wednesday.
