Ferguson police chief resigns, gets one year of pay

Posted online
Embattled Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson resigned Wednesday, a week after a scathing Justice Department report slammed his department.

As with Tuesday's resignation by City Manager John Shaw, the city called the move a "mutual separation," according to CNN.

"It's a really hard pill to swallow," Jackson said in a text message responding to CNN's request for comment.

The resignation goes into effect March 19. The city said he'll collect a severance payment and health insurance for one year. Lt. Col. Al Eickhoff will assume his duties during a nationwide search for a new chief.
