Ferguson hires interim city manager with troubled public service past

The city of Ferguson has hired Ed Beasley as interim city manager, the city council announced at a Tuesday meeting.

From 2002 to 2012, Beasley was city manager of Glendale, Ariz., but he exited the position before an external audit found he misled the city council about expenses associated with an early retirement program. According to the 2013 audit, Beasley made payments to two executives that weren't in the best interest of the city.

The St. Louis Business Journal reports several Ferguson residents voiced opposition to the choice of Beasley at Tuesday night's meeting.
