The recreational area at Fellows Lake was named after former City Utilities of Springfield General Manager Scott Miller.
The dedication of Miller Park was conducted July 24, according to a news release.
“My family and I are very honored to not only be part of this wonderful community, but we are excited to see how the lake and area around it can be a site to enjoy the outdoors and protect the primary source of water for Springfield," Miller said in the release.
Watershed Committee of the Ozarks Inc. took over operation of the 20-acre recreational area and Fellows Lake Marina in March, according to the nonprofit's website.
A new 28-slip marina is under construction to replace the original one that's been in use since the late 1950s, according to the release. The $585,587 project is slated for completion soon, said CU spokesperson Joel Alexander. He said the marina project is a CU capital investment under its water department.
The 800-acre area additionally is the site of an ongoing development plan called Dirt 66. Led and funded by nonprofit TrailSpring in partnership with Ozark Greenways Inc. and City Utilities, Dirt 66 includes new trails around the lake, according to Ozark Greenways' website.
