In light of this week’s winter storms, the city is waiving fees at the Yardwaste Recycling Center and the Springfield Municipal Landfill for Springfield and Greene County residents through Feb. 23. Both places will begin accepting ice-storm debris on Thursday.
The city has no plans for removing curbside debris, as the amount of debris is not expected to reach levels seen during the January 2007 ice storm, according to a city news release.
Brush and limbs taken to the recycling center should be cut in maximum 4-foot lengths and maximum 6-inch diameters. No size restrictions apply at the landfill, but individuals must be able to unload their debris. Stumps and root balls are not permitted but can be taken to an area adjacent to the landfill for $28.65 per ton.
Business owners and residents are encouraged to limit their clean-up efforts until weather and road conditions improve, according to the release.
Hours of operation and directions to both facilities are available at www.springfieldmo.gov/recycling.
