A federal report says Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City overbilled Medicare $581,000 in 2011 and 2012.
According to KCUR public radio, the hospital did not comply with requirements for 80 of 294 inpatient and outpatient Medicare claims reviewed by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Officer of Inspector General.
Saint Luke’s officials agreed with findings on 71 of the claims but “strongly disagreed” on the others, according to written comments to the OIG’s draft report. A hospital spokeswoman attributed the billing errors to medical device credits issued when a device fails and has to be replaced, according to KCUR.
