The federal government announced a nationwide crackdown on so-called robocallers.
The Federal Trade Commission said the effort targets companies and individuals who have placed more than 1 billion unwanted, illegal calls for financial schemes and other services.
The Justice Department and 15 states, including Missouri, also are involved.
