A bipartisan bill in Washington, D.C., would make it easier for farmers to receive loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The bill would change the criteria so that farmers or ranchers with a 50% stake in the business can get a loan. Currently, producers must be the sole owner to receive a loan.
The USDA administered 24,555 loans to U.S. producers in 2024. That totaled nearly $5.4 billion.
