A federal judge in Cape Girardeau has ordered China to pay $24 billion to Missouri.
The lawsuit brought by the state of Missouri alleged China hoarded personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The so-called lawsuit has no basis in fact, law or international precedence. China does not and will not accept it," a Chinese embassy spokesperson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "If China’s interests are harmed, we will firmly take reciprocal countermeasures according to international law."
