Federal judge: IRS must explain lost emails

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan has ordered the IRS to have the appropriate official file a declaration explaining “under oath” how the agency lost a mass of emails related to its targeting of tea party groups.

The decision was handed down July 10 as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, according to Fox News.

The IRS has said it lost the email three years ago when ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s computer crashed.
