Federal judge blocks noncompete rule

A federal judge has blocked the new Federal Trade Commission rule on noncompetes from going into effect.

U.S. District Judge Ada Brown said the rule banning employers from requiring noncompetes cannot go into effect as planned on Sept. 4.

The judge said the FTC does not have the authority to enact such a rule.
