A federal court has ordered the Missouri Department of Social Services to improve the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Under the order, the state is required to implement guidelines that would increase program enrollment for SNAP, which provides food for low-income families.
Plaintiffs in a lawsuit have alleged that many were denied benefits because they did not complete an interview, but they claim they could not make appointments due to extended waits or dropped calls through the state's call center for SNAP.
