Federal agents bring down hacking network

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday it has disrupted a hacking network linked to the theft of millions of dollars from U.S. bank accounts.
 
Charges also have been filed against Evgeniy Bogachev, a Russian citizen believed to be the leader of the hacking network.
 
The group allegedly used the botnet Gameover Zeus to illegally commandeer up to a million computers worldwide and use them to access U.S. bank accounts. A second program, Cryptolocker, which encrypts computer contents until the user pays a ransom, is also linked to the hacker group.
