Federal agencies prepare for shutdown

The Office of Management and Budget director has asked federal agencies to make plans for a partial government shutdown beginning Oct. 1.

OMB Director Sylvia Burwell sent out a memo yesterday asking agencies to prepare for a shutdown by updating previous plans made in the face of lapses in appropriations, according to the Washington Post.

The federal government’s fiscal year ends Sept. 30., and if lawmakers in Washington do not approve appropriations for fiscal 2014, administrators for federal agencies might need to take a fresh look at which employees would stay on the job and which would be sent home.
