Despite unemployment falling to 7.2 percent, the economy added fewer jobs in September than economists expected.
The report, released two weeks late because of the partial government shutdown, and indications that economic growth was slowing prior to the shutdown, are expected to cause the Federal Reserve to continue its economic stimulus into 2014, according to Reuters.
The prospect of continued stimulus encouraged investors. Wall Street rose Tuesday morning after the jobs report and its effect on the Fed were released.
