The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. selected Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC) President and CEO Joe Turner to serve on one of its advisory committees.
As a member of the advisory committee on community banking, Turner and 13 other banking executives from around the country will provide the FDIC advice on community bank policies and regulations. Turner is among eight new committee members who are joining five current members. The Great Southern president is the only member from Missouri, according to a news release.
"We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated community bank leaders join our advisory committee, which has been a valuable resource for the FDIC over the last few years," FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg said in the release. "The advisory committee has proven to be a key source of information and input for the FDIC on the many significant issues facing community banks.”
The community banking committee advises the FDIC on topics including examination policies and procedures, credit and lending practices, deposit insurance assessments, insurance coverage and regulatory compliance. It was formed in 2009.
During the second quarter, the 5,062 community banks insured by the FDIC posted net operating revenue of $22.8 billion, a 7 percent increase.
