FDA gives failing grade to DNA testing service

On Monday, the Food and Drug Administration ordered the company 23andMe to stop selling its personal DNA testing service immediately. The FDA states that the product, Personal Genome Service, has not been proven to give accurate results, according to a report in the New York Times.
 
The FDA states that despite numerous requests, 23andMe has not provided the agency with verifiable data that the $99 tests work as marketed.
 
23andMe, which is run by Anne Wojcicki, wife of Google founder Sergey Brin, contends that people are entitled to information on their own DNA. The FDA countered that it considers PGS a medical device that requires agency approval. Currently, such tests do not require an FDA OK.
