The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued emergency authorization for the use of blood plasma to treat COVID-19.
The FDA's announcement came after President Donald Trump last week accused the agency of holding back plasma treatment to harm his reelection chances. Government scientists have said evidence for the treatment's effectiveness is lacking.
More than 70,000 Americans already have received plasma treatments.
