FCC approves Nexstar's $6.2B deal with Tegna

Posted online

The Federal Communications Commission gave the OK to Nexstar’s $6.2 billion deal to acquire rival company Tegna.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr announced the agency waived a rule barring a single company from owning TV stations reaching more than 39% of U.S. households, according to NBC News. The combined entity would reportedly cover at least 60% of U.S. households.

The FCC's approval came less than a day after a group of eight state attorneys general filed suit to block the merger over antitrust reasons.
