The FBI is launching a new unit dedicated to tracking cryptocurrency crimes and ransomware profits.
The Virtual Asset Exploitation Team is designed to investigate “threat actors who exploit innovations as fast as the marketplace produces them," said U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.
The FBI currently is tracking over 100 different ransomware variants.
