FBI can access 412M images for face recognition

Watchdog agency Government Accountability Office yesterday released a report on the FBI's face recognition system, known as FACE, or Facial Analysis, Comparison and Evaluation.

The report revealed FACE has access to nearly 412 million images.

Until the release of the report, the FBI contended it held around 30 million images from civil and criminal mug shots through its Next Generation Identification database.

According to the report, the FBI has bartered with several states to gain access to visa and passport databases, the Defense Department’s biometric database and multiple drivers license databases.
