Residents of Fayetteville, Ark., voted to repeal an ordinance passed by their city council in August that prohibited discrimination in the workplace or in housing based on sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status and socioeconomic background.
Unofficial results were 7,523 for repeal (52 percent), compared to 7,040 against the repeal (48 percent).
Opponents of the ordinance had successfully petitioned for a recall vote in a special election, citing vague, poorly worded language and obstacles to business operations. Supporters felt it was a great move for Fayetteville to become the first city in the Natural State to ban such discrimination, according to Arkansas Business.
