Fauci points to 'disturbing surge' in COVID-19 cases

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said he's seeing a “disturbing surge” of COVID-19 cases in parts of the country.

“The virus is not going to disappear," Fauci said, speaking to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “The next couple of weeks are going to be critical in our ability to address those surges that we are seeing in Florida, in Texas, in Arizona and other states."

More than half of the country has reported an increase in cases, with some states slowing return-to-work plans or imposing new restrictions.

The virus has infected more than 2 million Americans and killed 121,000.
