Rita A. Baron, associate AIA, is the project designer for Farnswoth Group of the Discovery Center of Springfield, 438 E. St. Louis St. The approximately $1.6 million project has an estimated completion date of 2003, and a contractor has not yet been named.
The Discovery Center of Springfield is preparing for a restoration of the exterior of its downtown buildings and an expansion to the west. The challenges of this project include integrating structure with function in a design that reflects the Discovery Center's goal of providing the highest quality environment for southwest Missouri children and families in its educational facility.
The project comprises 18,330 square feet and will provide visitors with a first floor and mezzanine filled with exciting, interactive exhibits, a roof terrace for group functions, astronomical interests and a future roof plan for a greenhouse.
