Fannie Mae to give taxpayers $3.7B

Government-controlled mortgage finance firm Fannie Mae said on Thursday it will pay U.S. taxpayers $3.7 billion after posting a quarterly profit.

According to Reuters, the latest payment to be made in September will increase Fannie Mae's returns to taxpayers to $130.5 billion in return for $116.1 billion in aid it received during the financial crisis.

The company posted second-quarter net income of $3.7 billion.
