The Ozark-based pharmacy chain will reopen the former Super D Pharmacy at 527 W. Kearney St. on Sept. 4 after a two-and-a-half-month remodeling project.
Family Pharmacy owner Lynn Morris said the $60,000 renovation will basically be a total overhaul of the existing building, including new plumbing, lighting, wiring, carpet and tile, exterior signage and parking lot restriping.
“It hadn’t had anything done in quite a while,” Morris said. “It’s almost like putting a new building in. The way it is right now, it wouldn’t be the way one of our stores would look.”
George Graddy, who managed the Super D for 30 years, has been hired as the manager of the new location. Morris said other former employees are also being considered for the new store, which will employ about five people initially.
The Kearney Street location will be the second Springfield location for Family Pharmacy; the first is in the Summer Fresh Supermarket, 220 W. Plainview Road.
Family Pharmacy is also preparing to open a new standalone pharmacy in Rogersville, replacing the company’s current presence in the Apple Market Grocery on U.S. Highway 60.
“It’s probably the nicest one of our stores,” Morris said of the new Rogersville location, which is scheduled to open July 23. “It’s going to have some new things, like fresh and refrigerated flowers. We’ll be able to experiment and see how things go.”
